The Thursday Club

Wedding venues loaded with glitz and glamour are dazzling, but we have a special place in our hearts for those extra-special venues with love in their bones. Venues that exude grace, character and a warm congeniality that befits your special day. The Thursday Club, hidden away in the Sunset Cliffs neighborhood in Point Loma, San Diego is one such magical event space.

Contact:

Built in 1927, The Thursday Club is the clubhouse for The Thursday Club not-for-profit, which was formed in 1921 by four determined young women to raise funds for philanthropic projects large and small. Nearly one century later, the charity
continues to thrive having raised millions of dollars since its inception, and the clubhouse remains the physical embodiment of its big-hearted pursuits.

PERFECT HARMONY

Outside, the simplicity of this historic white building and its traditional Spanish architecture is in stark contrast to the deep blue skies and ocean views. It’s breathtaking. The elegant, restrained design allows the expansive views
across the Pacific, Ocean Beach, Mission Beach and Pacific Beach to take center stage. Delicate blue/green framing and accents continue to give a gentle visual nod to the building’s marine setting.

Enter the clubhouse foyer and you’re immediately struck with how cozy and welcoming it feels with its original features and vaulted ceiling. The whole venue has a relaxed, cottage vibe that instantly puts you at ease. It’s like going back
in time.

HISTORIC SAN DIEGO VENUE

The main hall is a breath of fresh air with its wooden vaulted ceiling, painted white to match the walls and French doors, embellished with market lights (optional) and delightful antique metallic chandeliers that sparkle overhead at night.
At the far end is a stage decorated with a crest and scroll details, and stunning ocean themed stained glass windows on both sides of the hall, which add a joyous pop of color to the space.

Did we mention the large outdoor patio with ocean views? Yes, as if the interior wasn’t enough, the main hall leads onto a terracotta tiled patio on which your guests can savor a cocktail or two and enjoy the balmy ocean breeze and jaw-dropping
palm-fringed vistas.

As a wedding venue, The Thursday Club is manna from heaven. Certainly, it has large communal areas with plenty of wow factor, but also intimate spaces and quiet corners in which guests can relax with a drink, maybe even steal a kiss (this
is a wedding, after all). And you’ll find plenty of idyllic spots for those all important wedding photos.

A WEDDING CATERER’S DREAM

Also, when it comes to catering your wedding or event, it’s good to know that The Thursday Club has an enormous (seriously), beautifully lit and well-equipped kitchen. Wedding caterers like us love it, of course, but don’t let us influence
you one way or the other! All jokes aside, a well functioning kitchen space helps to simplify your food service.

In addition, adjoining the main hall is a small sunny room with an adobe fireplace and access to another balcony with ocean views, which is a great place in which to lay out your buffet.

GARDEN PARTIES & CEREMONIES

Descend a few steps from the drinks patio and emerge into a beautifully maintained garden to the rear of the venue. Every available space overflows with shrubs and plants, including an established ficus tree (a symbol of peace and abundance
in parts of the world), ruby red geraniums, lilac agapanthus and dazzling white roses. With butterflies flitting flower to flower, the summer garden is ablaze with color and scent.

A paved space made private by climber-covered archways provides plenty of room for an intimate ceremony overlooked by well wishers on the balcony above. Behind is a quiet grassy area with a central fountain; the perfect spot to relax and
soak up the day. Serene doesn’t do it justice.

FEEL THE LOVE

There’s no question that this venue holds a special place in the heart of its community—the pride shines through in the warm welcome your receive from the manager to the smiling passersby. You sense that there are few barriers separating
the Club and its surroundings, and neighbors frequently comment on how much joy they get from feeling part of each wedding.

That’s what makes this place so special. It’s more than a wedding venue, it’s a shrine to love.
