Clients Scott and Shayne threw a lavish Great Gatsby themed party in San Diego’s iconic El Cortez. Our San Diego catering team went back in time to cater this super fun event.
As guests mingled, a bartender poured gin into a chilled martini glass. A waiter serves warm hors d’ oeuvres fresh from the kitchen, to a giggling lady with white gloves. The dim light from brass wall sconces illuminate a jazz band. The singer approaches the mic, his warm voice fills the room, transporting everyone back to the 1930s…
This was one of the best Great Gatsby parties. The old hotel added so much character. The guests meticulously dressed the part. Our San Diego catering team had so much fun.
San Diego’s El Cortez
The El Cortez is an exquisite, historic San Diego hotel perfect for an elegant wedding or a Great Gatsby themed party. It’s glowing sign has been seen by almost everyone living in San Diego, but sadly few people have stepped inside for a cocktail. If you haven’t, you owe it to yourself to pay The El Cortez a visit.
“From its opening in 1927 through the 1950s, it was the most glamorous apartment-hotel in San Diego. The large “El Cortez” sign, which is illuminated at night, was added in 1937 and could be seen for miles. In the 1950s, the world’s first outside glass elevator was built at the El Cortez. During the late 1960s and 1970s, the El Cortez fell on harder times. The El Cortez closed as a hotel in 1978 when it was purchased by evangelist Morris Cerullo to serve as an evangelism school. Cerullo sold the property in 1981, and the El Cortez was threatened with demolition until the San Diego Historic Site Board designated it as a historic site in 1990. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.” ~Wikipedia

A tip of the hat to coordinator Doris Dunkel of San Diego Events Company for pulling together every aspect of the evening into something that really did feel magical. It was a pleasure working with Doris and we look forward to out next encounter.
